Okay, I love to run and hike and swim. Cardio exercises have always been quite enjoyable to me.
But my true passion since I was about 13 yrs old is weight lifting. As I have said earlier I use the Total Gym each and every week. It is really so refreshing to get those muscles pumped etc…
Along with the Total Gym I also use dumbells to do Supersets…….this really gets the blood rushing and the muscles pumping.

One of the things people ask me regularly is, ‘does weight lifting help you lose weight ‘ ??
I tell them without hesitation, YES !! It really comes dowm to two different ways that it promotes weight loss. First of all, if you do circuit weight lifting this will give you a Cardio workout as it will get the heart pumping fast and your breathing will increase.
Along with that the general benefits of weight lifting will help you keep the fat off. How you ask ?? Well, once you start putting on lean muscle the actual muscles themselves burn fat in a more efficient manner. And when you are Resting your Muscles and Metabolism will keep your Body slim and tight.
It kind of self propels itself, once you get lean muscles that is.

People get the incorrect notion that if they start some form of weight lifting that it will cause Massive muscles and bulk them up too much. This is a fallacy as most people will NOT get bulky unless they do HEAVY lifting and drink and take Supplements along with it.

So a piece of advice is eat a healthy and balanced diet and incorporate light to medium lifting as well as Cardio exercising along with it !! ;)

Well, my Wives vacation of over 2 weeks is over and so is mine. She went back to work this morning and currently I have the Baby off for a nap and just got a few moments to put this Post up !! :)
Actually, I had a good workout yesterday with the Total Gym. If you do not know about the Total Gym it is a exercise device that was founded a number of years ago and is used by millions of people Worldwide. Chuck Norris back in the 1980s was given one by the Founder and the Martial Arts/Actor was hooked on it. It really is a great device to get a great workout.

Basically, it is operated by Pulleys and you use your own body weight to get a good, full body workout for every muscle of the human body.
The great thing is you can do a quick workout without much rest in between sets and this will provide a great workout for the cardiovascular system.

Along with some jogging/Walking a couple times a week, this Total Gym provides an overall effective weight loss workout.

Now here is a word of advice if you are thinking about getting this great piece of exercise equipment………..You can buy one of the newer models on the late night infomercials and literally pay thousands. Or you can do like I did and go to Walmart and purchase the scaled down model. It is nearly as effective and it will provide you with what you need to lose weight and put on lean muscle mass !!

Okay so the in laws have come to Palm Springs for 2 weeks to visit us. And in the past week I have unashamedly indulged myself in food that would suit a dinosaur. We went out of town last week to San Diego. It was beautiful there as we took in all the sights including the battleships and the downtown area.

But we ate and ate and ate and ate. Eating hamburgers and french fries and washing it down with soda pop. It kind of felt good for a second but only for a second. After a while eating hamburgers and fries got old. But i did manage to get in a few runs during this time. Especially, when we headed to Disneyland later in the week.We stayed at a nice Holiday Inn in Anaheim. And thank goodness they had a decent Little workout room with elliptical and free weights. I got in two very good workouts and two nice runs. It was so refreshing to run in shaded 80 degree weather. Instead of the sunny 100 degree weather in Palm Springs where we live !!

Anyway, we got back two days ago and I am getting back into the swing of things. No more Cotton Candy, Caramel Apples. Icees, Corn Dogs, and Hamburgers. I am getting back into healthy living and eating.

For you people out there I say it is alright to have a little fun on vacation.Have a hamburger or two but just dont go overboard like I did !! ;)

Wow, last night I went out for a 30 minute run and it was the best I have felt in over 2 months !! The weather here in the Cali Desert is always hot this time of year. But last night it was only about 95 degrees which is a cool streak out her.
For those of you that dont know the Coachella Valley where I live is just West of LA and is a few hundred miles from the City of Phoenix. So it gets mighty HOT here !! :)

Anyway, I ran thru the Canyon Mountains and it was really beautiful out. The night before I also ran but it was like 102 degrees at 8 pm and it just about killed me.

Not last night. It was a complete turn around. I really got to enjoy the awesome scenery in my backyard as I ran thru the Santa Rosa Mountains and the surrounding canyon. The first part of my run is slightly uphill and the middle part is all down hill. And the last small stretch is slightly uphill.

Running really has been my Lifeline to keeping my weight down over the years along with weightlifting . I have been running since I was 7 years old when I ran my first 10k.

I encourage ALL of you to either run or walk a couple of times a week. It is rewarding and beneficial in keeping the pounds of and the heart in good shape.

I will continue in talking about this great activity throughout my Blog.

PLEASE take a note if you do decide to Run for exercise and weight control please try to stay off the roads as much as possible. This is for your joints sake because concrete and asphalt can wear and tear on joints like your knees.
