Okay, my Wife’s best friend and her hubbie are coming in from Boston tomorrow. And I have a feeling it might be a week of overeating and indulgence. I sure hope not.
I am just getting down a good exercise routine with my 9 month old daughter. About three times a week, I put her in the all terrain baby stroller and we go run for over 30 minutes among the Santa Rosa Mountains here in California!!
My weight has been going down some as I am also eating smaller proportions along with the exercising.
But when our Company comes from outta town I have a feeling that it will go down the tubes. Okay, I want everyone here to motivate me to walk the straight and narrow here.
I know one thing I will do is encourage our Guests to at least take a nice long walk every night. This does two things. First, it really will provide some entertainment for everyone as we have about the most beautiful walking paths in the Country here amongst our desert Mountains !! It is breathtaking and our Company will love it.
Second, this Walk will give me some sort of exercise to maintain my fitness and weight.
Even though it is not like running it is at least something.
Anyway, I will let everyone know next week how it all went down. And if I remained discipline or not !! Stay tune

Well, my Wife had 4 days off this past long weekend and unfortunately we both splurged with our diets to our hearts content.
We and our baby daughter decided to get out of the Desert heat for a day and go to the Beaches of LA !! It was so gorgeous there. We went shopping, eating, walking, eating, driving, eating and more eating.
Lets face it we went way overboard. We ate Pizza, ice cream, pastries, candy and soda on top of that. It was a real all out junk-fest.
Now it is Monday and I did get a very good run yesterday so I dont feel to guilty. I tell you what though it can be hard to stay fit and slim here in the Desert during the Summer. It is just so dangum hot so its hard to get out and be active with exercise.
My wife and I and our daughter are just counting the days til the end of September and the beginning of October. This is when the temperature starts to moderate a little and the days go from 110 degrees down into the low 90s. Btw, yes the low 90s is like a cool front here in the Cali Desert !!
I am continuing to maintain my weight even in this hot Summer climate. But I really look forward in he Fall when I can get out more and do some running, hiking and biking. Also, I love to play Disc Golf and walking around doing that can burn some calories.
So there you have it I am just counting the days until I can get out and really pursue my exercise regimen for burning fat and staying fit !!

Okay, we live out here in the Desert so having a Swimming pool is quite necessary when it routinely gets up to 122 degrees during the Summers.
People ask me from other parts of the Country, ‘Rob, what is it like to live in 122 degree weather’ ?? Well, if I can best describe it I would say it is similar to when you open a Broiling oven. There is just a swoosh of heat when you step out of the car.
It is not heat that is humid and makes you sweat. It is just a dry heat but dont let that foll you because it can be downright uncomfortable.
As I said we have a nice little Pool in our home overlooking the Santa Rosa Mountains to combat this sometimes intolerable condition we have to confront !!
I have found Swimming to be one of the greatest exercises to keep your body in shape and keep the pounds off !! If you do a good amount of Laps you will inevitable find yourself winded as your Heart beats fast trying to pump blood to all the parts of your body. Also, while doing this you will be burning calories and consequently this will keep the pounds off.
Also, th great thing about swimming is the fact it is an activity you can do well into old age. Mainly due t the fact that there is no stress put on your joints like there is in Running and other Cardio exercises.
I cant tell you how many 80 yr. olds I have seen in the last few years who are eagerly swimming laps and finding this activity to be conducive to long term health.
Now go out there and make a splash !!

Okay I have been going on and on about the Total gym and all the many benefits associated with this at Home work out device. The thing is the Total Gym is a device that is not geared towards heavy lifting. It is actually more focused around light to medium Lifting.
So whats the difference between Light and Heavy Lifting and how does it affect your body and your weight ??
Well, when I was younger around my College years I was really into heavy Lifting. Actually it was called PowerLifting. Powerlifting is the movement of large amounts of poundage using three lifts. The Squat, Bench Press and Dead Lift. I would get to the point where I was doing a Max set of three Rep with a large amount of straining.
Now what does this type of heavy Lifting do ??
Basically it builds larger, bulkier muscles than light lifting. Have you seen some of those guys in the Mr. Olympia who cant put their arms straight down their sides ? Well, thats the result of heavy lifting.
To be honest as you get older it really is more wise to move away from this extreme Lifting. It builds Mass but also puts a strain on the joints including the knees and rotary cuff around the shoulders among other things.
What does Light Lifting do ??
It usually promotes smaller muscles that are generally more defined and cut. Light training tends to also burn off fat more impressively than heavy lifting mainly due to the fact that you can go faster and get winded easier with circuit training.
I know I do the light lifting with the Total gym and I get both defined and stay pretty massive because of my natural bone structure. The fat seems to stay off easier than when I used to do straight Heavy Lifting.
In the end it is up to you, but I highly recommend as you get older to ponder the benefits of Lighter Lifting with a Circuit training style to it.
