Gosh , I just cant believe that in a few days it will be a whole brand new year. It seems 2010 has just flown by like it was nothing.
With a New Year upon us comes the realization that many of you will need to take a step back and assess where you have been and where you need to go. I dont know why we always designate the New Year as the time to do this but it has become a tradition for many of us !
That being said I really want to instill into many of you that going on the crash diet for New Years is not the end all be all way to get slim and healthy. Now dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with a little jump start but remember when you go on a diet eventually you will have to get off of it. So make plans of what you want to do once you are off the New Years diet. Be specific and to the point. I would even suggest you write out what exactly you want to do for the remaining year and how you are going to do it.
Learn that it is as much mental as it is physical. And after you have lost some pounds and are off the New Year’s diet, you MUST make a lifestyle change in the way you act and think. For long term, that is the only way you will be successful in keeping off the unwanted pounds. As we have said in the past , adopt an exercise regimen that you can consistently do for years to come. If that means Walking twice a week then so be it. The point is to be able to manage to do it for long term !
Thing Marathon and not Sprint when it comes to staying healthy and slim !! And you will do just fine.

Just want to wish everyone out there a very Merry Christmas ! For those not celebrating this Holiday, I want to wish you many joyous happenings in your Life and an abundance of Blessings !!
This period of time is a tough time to keep the weight off let alone lose it. There are so many festivities going on and piles and piles of food to add to the mix, it is a wonder how any of us keep the pounds off this time of year
Remember the best way to keep your form is to have balance in your diet and in your life. Having turkey and gravy today for Christmas dinner is perfectly fine. Just remember you might have to put 15 more minutes on the treadmill or eat a salad for lunch tomorrow to balance things out.
I think it is also a good time to reflect on the year that is almost passed to see where you are and where you have come from. Just go back to the beginning of 2010 and access your progress ( or maybe your failings) and then you can start planning ahead for 2011 and what you need to do or not do.
Remember staying in shape and getting healthy is a life long task for most of us. It takes continual work and focus and it never really ends. Having a strong mental state is really as important if not more than the physical side of losing weight.
Lets get ready to have a banner year for 2011 , and I sincerely look forward in travelling this journey with many of you guys !!

The week before last I really had a decent Thanksgiving. What I mean by decent is that I did NOT over stuff myself to the point of having a massive bellyache. I ate sensibly and heartily. Make no mistake I did not hold back, but I did not go back for thirds and fourths like most Thanksgiving dinners in the past !!
Now the real test comes with Christmas. Christmas is really the event that gets most people back on track to obesity. Its not a holiday where you just have one massive dinner and thats it. Rather Christmas is a whole month’s celebration full of office parties, Church functions, neighborhood and family gathererings, renunions, and other festivities. If you can make it thru the Christmas season without gaining a pound then you are way ahead of the crowd.
I really think Christmas is a bad time to get on a diet or try make it a goal to lose weight. The reason I say this points back to one thing that I preach about probably more than anything else here on this blog. And that is learning to keep BALANCE in your Life. Life should be about happiness, peace, and fulfillment. And enjoying one’s self and having fun is something that ALL of us need to do periodically. Especially around the holidays like Christmas. Go ahead and have another cup of egg nog or finish that last piece of pecan pie. Just remember the next day you might add another half mile into your workout or just eat a simple garden salad. Just BALANCE things out !!
So get off your can and go celebrate Christmas and just remember to use your commonsense when figuring out what you should eat and not eat during this time !
