I am still a little achey from running that 10k in Knoxville this past Saturday. It was a sunny and hot day and the course was definitely pretty hard. It will be the only 10K I will run this year.
I started off at a good pace. It was around 7:24 for the first mile. And I ended up the race at 48:26 for the 6.2 run. Not bad for only twice a week running for the last 6 months or so. It came out to an average of 7:48 per mile for the race.I cannot complain. Especially because the last mile was dreadfully hard as it was one big hill.
Overall two thumbs up for the 1,000 mile trip as I got to spend some ‘me’ time away from my two girls and wife with my parents and relatives. I really got to recharge my batteries !!
I will do a short run today and resume my regular run on Thursday. Except I will cycle my distances down from 6 to 7 miles to 4 and 5 mile runs. Mainly because the road running is taking its toll on my groin and knees. The last two months I have had problems with both. I attribute it directly to running on asphalt.
And as much as I love running I will eventually cut it down to once a week and gradually recontinue the elliptical training and swimming.
Of course, on top of this I will continue my 3 day a week interval circuit training with my 30 lb hand weights. I will go into more detail in upcoming posts about this interval circuit training i have been doing awhile. Basically, it targets both toning the muscles and getting aerobic/anarobic training to get the fat burning going full charge in your body !
Also with the cut in my training, I will definitely watch the calories more closely especially my Sugar intake. Remember this : Fat doesnt cause people to be fat, Sugar causes people to be fat. PERIOD !
So watch out for these low fat products that claim to be healthy like Yogurt and Protein Bars. They may have some protein and are low in fat but the manufactures load em up with Suger to make it taste better. Thats a disaster for putting on the fat and causing many diseases that eventually can be life threatening like heart disease and diabetes !
So watch out guys !!!
Until next time folks,
Yeah I have run the Knoxville Expo 10k for 35 years since its inception in 1978. I was about 9 years old when it all started and have loved doing it every year.
I have had a few setbacks this year including groin problems and upper leg injuries. I think it may be the wear and tear on my body over the many years of running on asphalt. In the next few years, I plan to reduce road running and do more activities including swimming and the elliptical trainer. These activities will reduce the strain on the joints.
I think many of you looking for exercises to start getting in shape might consider running. Its really enjoyable ,but I would find a synthetic rubberized track to do it on or a treadmill. Also just brisk walking most anywhere is a great workout for most anyone.
Anyway, I plan to fly out from Texas to Tennessee on Wednesday for the race and I am trying to get my last few workouts in. Its been reaally tough with my leg injury but I am going to push it on through. After this I will take a week or so off and then resume my Monday and Thursday runs. Also as part of my exercise regimen I have started doing dumbell workouts on Monday and Fridays and doing my regular Pushup and Crunch workout on Wednesday. Thats it, nothing more and I get the weekends off to spend with my family Remember to find an exercise regimen that you can manage to do year by year. And stay in shape with it. You do NOT need to be the Biggest Loser and try to kill yourself
Oh and btw the way my wife has been doing the Weightwatchers program for about 8 months now. And has had steady success with it. I will talk more about that later.
Wish me luck with the race !! :>)
Hey guys it has been a long time since I posted. It has been a very busy time with my 2 and 3 year old daughters. But as the hot and humid sun descend upon us in here in Texas in June I will definitely have more time to dedicate to my blog. In other wards, kids inside equals daddy inside :>)
Just a quick Post today but a very important one at that.
Here are a few things to help you burn the fat and look 5 to 10 years younger.
1.First of all the low fat diet craze of the past decade or so have been so overrated . In fact some fats like oily omega three which can be found in fatty fish can produce Collagen. This Collagen in effects keep the wrinkles off your body and acts as a natural moisturizer . Fat is also a re generator of power hormones like Testosterone which gives strength to your body. And gives you anti aging producing properties.Fat should not been seen a something to be afraid of as it is a necessary ingredients to your body’s metabolism. Thats the bottom line.
2. Do not do endless hours of Cardio. Many times just a few minutes of intense exercising or consistent exercising is all you need. For me I do run up to an hour at a time but I only do that twice a week. If you can pick a particular exercise that last you 30 minutes or less and gets you sweating and heart pumping then go for it. This can also cause less injuries to add icing on the cake.
3. Keep your body hydrated as much as possible. It is amazing what H2O can do for your organs, hair, skin etc…It will keep your skin young and healthy looking for years and help contribute to the weight loss !
One last thing I will leave on………..always keep a healthy and young Spirit at heart. I know it sounds a bit cliche . But it is so true. I see it so many times where a 60 yr. old man out does a 40 yr. old man in total fitness just because he has kept a healthy outlook on Life and has gotten to know his body better than any Doctor could. Remember, no none knows your body and mind better than you so take a little time to acquaint your self to it
