I kind of get a kick out of watching the Biggest Loser. Its fun to see the competitive nature of these severely obese people who go head to head in doing exercises to lose as much weight as they can each week.

Even though I get I kick out of it some regards , I also get a big turnoff by it in another. I really do not think the show promotes the proper way to get slim and stay healthy. To lose weight as fast as you can is not only wrong but it can be dangerous. I think it was the season before last on the Biggest Loser where one of the contestants almost had a heart attack as he fell to the ground after doing a strenuous workout.

With people of this size you need to start off slowly and methodically and  engrain over time a healthier approach to life. This includes a better diet, a manageable exercise regimen ,and a spiritual and mental development.

And by no means should you rush into things by competing with others on who can lose the most weight in the quickest time. This is plain ridiculous !

I think the trainers which include Bob , who has been there for every season, in their heart of hearts realize the Biggest Loser is NOT the correct way to stay slimmer and healthiert.

But you know what they say??……….. money can really cloud someones judgement. In this case I can definitely can see that with the trainers.

A big two thumbs down for the Biggest Loser and in its effects on being a good steward in the proper way of eating and and  exercising !!

Howdy guys !!

I will make it a brief post here. I think these 5 exercises will really help you in becoming healthier and getting slimmer.

1. Running – Well, any of you who know me will realize how much I love Running and it has greatly impacted my Life in a very positive way. Remember, to start off slow and build up after you become more confident and your body adjusts appropriately.

2. Swimming -  This has been one of my favorite Summer activities and one of my best complimetary activities to Running. One good thing about Swimming is that you get a good cardiovascular workout without the wear and tear on joints that you might get with Running !

3. Walking – For those who are older and for those who have weaker joints, ligaments, or tendons this could be an ideal exercise to take up. Just remember to keep the pace brisk and you will see some good results on your heart and lungs.

4. Boxing or Shadow Boxing – This activity has been known for many years to be one of the greatest activities to burn calories. There is no doubt about it. I remember when I was in junior high I boxed in intramurals and after a few minutes my body was spent. Shadow boxing done in a similar manner will see the same results !! And you can do this almost anywhere !

5. Mountain Biking – I just love this sport. It has been awhile since I have been able to participate in it. But I know when I did it, it proved to be a great cardio activity along with developing the upper body. And it also puts limited stress on your joints.

Hope this helps in finding a suitable exercise that matches your needs.

Yeah the 7 miler felt great. I noticed in the last mile or so the top of my thighs started to get a little tight and sore. As I write this today I find myself a little sore in my lower body but not too bad.

I plan to stick to the 4 and 5 milers as that is a good distance for me. I have not run over 7 miles in at least 12 years. But it feels really great to be able to reel off a 7 miler like i did last night !! My age still does not show as I think I can out run most 20 yr. olds at this distance.

On top of this I weighed myself for the first time in about 3 weeks. I have gained 8 lbs since last weigh in. I am 181 lbs and that is exactly what my goal has been the last 6 months. Though I think part of this weight gain can be attributed to Halloween candy and a pizza hut buffet today right before I weighed in :)

But Iam bent on staying around the 180 lb to 183 lb area. I do know some of my gain in weight lately can also be as a result  of the 300 pushup and 200 crunches I do every day, 5 days a week !!  I have built up some pretty lean muscle mass and will be adding some dumbell free weights once a week pretty soon !! This will add even more.

Staying in shape and staying slim is a lifetyle commitment !! There is no getting around it. But………….you can have those splurges like I did   today at Pizza Hut.  Just balance it out. So tonight I will drink some muscle milk and eat a collage of strawberries, broccoli,  cauliflower, and grapes and a piece of  wheat bread !!

UHMMM GOOOOD !!!  Keep it going folks

Last night around 9pm I started to feel cravings for some food that was less than healthy. I was going to eat some popcorn spread with high fat peanut butter. I thought for a second and it made no sense to indulge in such things so I backed away and came to my senses :)

Especially at this time of night it is not advisable to eat anything heavy let alone fatty food like above.

Anyway, instead of eating the high fat food for evening  munchies I got an apple with some grapes and had a feast ;)   This not only curbed my cravings for junk food it was also very pleasurable to eat. It really was.

I know many of you think it is impossible to get rid of those night life munchies. Believe me beacuase I am one of them. But you really dont have to if  you think about the goals you want to accomplish and then proceed to find some healthy alternatives that really taste good.

Grapes have certain antioxidants that keep you Heart strong and away from heart disease. And an apple they say will keep you from the doctor if eaten everyday.

There also many  foods you can eat to relieve those late munchies including celery with low fat mayo, oranges, nuts, toasted wheat bread with small amounts of organic jelly, non processed cereal, grapefruit, broccoli spears with low fat ranch  dressing and many others.

So just remember stay away from those nightly bowls of fruit loops because their are other healthier foods to utilize!……..and they will get you closer to that goal of being slimmer and healthier !!

Hey guys , I have not tried this gum before so I cannot say for sure that chewing a piece of gum can help you lose weight or not.

But from my own research there is a good possibility that there is a gum called Supresalin 60 gum that can do just that.

There is a lot of science that backs up this gum. And the main ingredients that makes it so effective is a herb called Adigam. This herb grows in parts of India and Malysia and has been getting a great deal of noteriety from scientists , nutritionists , and health nuts like myself ! :)

The major factor (Adigam) working behind this weight reduction gum is that it reduces you overasll cravings to eat more food !! This is basically the reason why people are over weight because they cannot satisfy their cravings !

So how does this Gum work to lose weight ?? Well, when you get a real strong craving to eat you pop a piece of  Supresalin 60 gum in your mouth and start chewing. What happens when you do this ?? The herb in the gum called Adigam begins to work as it binds to the sugar receptors in your mouth. And this curbs your cravings  for the next hour or so and  you are unable to taste any kind of sugar. This is like a double whammy and kills your cravings in less than a minute. Your body doesn’t have to digest anything as it is directly absorbed in your mouth immediately.

Another aspect of Supresalin 60 gum is that it disrupts how the brain associates food with pleasure. So after taking this gum you fail to get pleasure from certain food, especially comfort food,  that you once did before. Thus reducing the addiction that so many have towards a certain type of food when they experience stress, anger and other emotional feelings !

There has been clinical studies done on this  gum with real people. These studies show that the gum reduces craving and reduces the taste of sugar to a degree of 22%  less calories than the placebo group of people. That is a lot of   calories and results in a reduction in fat and over weight.

Now at this blog I have always stressed that eating good foods( but not perfect)  and developing a manageable exercise regimen with adopting healthy mental and spiritual assets are the key success to losing weight and staying healthy.

But for some people this Gum COULD be a good way to  jump start their weight losing journey.

I have not tried the gum but from what I see it COULD be legitimate !!

Cheers,

Robert Andrew

About 7 months ago I was really hurting when I went and ran for the first time in a few months. I literally could not run more than a half mile. I clearly remember the humility I felt about this. And I also remember at the gym I joined with my wife last December, I had an extremely hard time to finish even 10 minutes on the elliptical . Those months were really weird as my body was under some  “spell” or something where I would take a run and just had to stop 3 or 4 times. You know in the past Id never experienced this since about the 6th grade or so !! A lot of it was physical gut I think most was mental.

However, things changed for me when I went home to visit my parents in June. I ran almost every day there and just felt so  strong.  And this continued throughout most of the Fall until about 6 weeks ago when my  Heart started to skip beats and go fast then go slow etc.. the doctors said everything is fine.

So these last few days I have been running on my own. And last night was a real breakthrough. I felt strong as I ran 6.5 miles in 50 minutes. I felt I could have gone on another 4 miles or so. Needless to say this was really very encouraging!

Its funny how things can workout in one’s Life. At some point you can feel so down and out but then you find just around the corner greatness and fulfillment can hit you right smack in the face. ;)

So you guys keep on keeping on and NEVER give up in anything you do in Life !!

Cheers,
Robert Andrew

Here is a list of foods that will give you more of those unwanted cravings which in turn will cause more fat in the belly and all around the body !!

1. Fruit Juice – Many people say fruit juice is good for you because it has antioxidants such as vitamin c for overall good health. But the fact is they are loaded with high fructose syrup and are full of sugar.
So the level of good you get from antioxidants from juice will be completely offset by the sugar. This sugar in turn causes your blood sugar to increase and your cravings to increase…..and bottom line your belly fat will skyrocket !!

So what do you do ?? You should eat actual fruit to curb the increase of blood sugar in your system !!

2. White bread – This form of food is completely without any nutrition and acts as pure starch and as a result increases your blood sugar and as we have seen increases cravings and belly fat !!

Stay away from white bread and look for alternatives like whole grain wheat bread !!

3. Majority of cereals – Most cereals are loaded with sugar. And most people eat multiple servings of it and wonder why just a few hours later they are craving more food.
Try cereals that are higher in fiber and minimal on sugar. For every gram of fiber have 5 grams of sugar ;this should be a minimum !

Alternative to cereal are wholesome foods such as natural oatmeal sprinkled with some blueberries or strawberries. Just be sure to avoid the instant oatmeal , it is loaded with sugar !!

Be smart with your diet. This stuff above aint rocket science !! It is basic, principle dietary jargon that you can implement into your lifestyle and ultimately lead to a slimmer and healthier you !!

Be proud of your body and be proud of what you put into it !!

Cheers to your success ,
Robert Andrew

Hey guys, whats up ??
I just ran a 5.5 miler last night and it felt great !! Last week I had been running with my daughters in the stroller. I was getting some killer workouts but I still missed running on my own.

I will also do a 5 miler on my own tomorrow and really look forward to that.

As most of you know in the last 6 weeks or so I have had these funny palpitations in my Heart. But it seems like here in the last 2 weeks they have subsided. This all happened after I finished the tests I had done at the cardiologists.

Maybe these palpitations are not that uncommon amongst people as the Cardiologist said to me. I will just keep an eye on it and make sure to lay off any heavy cardio if I experience these funny heart beats like I did 5 weeks ago.

Anyway, I have kept up my other training to keep my upper body in good shape. These include 250 to 350 pushups Monday thru Friday and 200 situps these same days.

Its weird but I have gotten more definition out of my chest muscles (pecs) than any other free weight training I have done in the past. And this workout takes about the tenth of time it takes to do a free weight routine.
I am not sure though if I could do a heavy bench press like I could do when I was weight training. But I am also sure when I was lifting the heaviest I could NOT do over 200 straight pushup without stopping like I can now !! :)

There is nothing like working out. And they say if you dont have your health (and Spirituality) then you dont have anything.

The more I grow older the more I believe in this. Please to any of you who take your health for granted, just DONT.

Make sure to take care of your bodies as it is the only one you will ever have ,and the one God gave you as a temple.

Cheers to a long and happy life,
Robert Andrew

Just a quick Post to you guys………I know tonight you might be partying or eating some of those trick or treat goodies. Go ahead and enjoy yourselves ,but remember tomorrow you have to balance what you did on Halloween with an extra mile or so or maybe eat a nice Salad with low fat dressing tomorrow.

As many of you know I in no way support the notion that you always have to eat a strict and unenjoyable diet. Just keep the junk food to a minimal and make sure you eat plenty of lean proteins, nuts, fruit and vegetables and keep the Carbs down as best you can !!

Once again have a Happy Halloween and go out and really spook someone
tonight !! :)

I forgot to mention the day before yesterday I went and saw my Cardiologist. A week or so before this, I had an echocadiagram, stress test, and a 24 hr. holster to measure my heart activity.

He said all looked good at least the “plumbing” of my Heart did. I am not sure exactly what that means ,but he went ahead and scheduled another appointment with another Cardiologist who specializes in the “electrical” part of the Heart.

He also said he did see the irregular heart beats (palpitations) but he said everyone has those. He said it could be due to stress. For one thing, I do not believe that everyone has had palpitations to the extent I have had them. I know that for a fact by just asking many family and friends if they have had similar ones to mine. And no one has.

I don’t know……… sometimes I just wonder about these doctors and if they really know for sure what is wrong and even care !! Its debatable !!!

But I will see this heart doctor and see if there is something wrong with the ‘electrical’ part of my Heart.

Anyway, I have continued working out and especially in the last 4 days. I have done 3 mile+ runs at a brisk pace with my daughters in the stroller. I tell you what these have been killer workouts and my heart, muscles, and all my body seem to be working just fine.

So this comforts me that maybe not all is wrong with my Heart. Maybe these palpitations are just something I have to live with but are not serious.

I tell you one thing its good to be hitting the pavement again !! :)

Until next time take care
Robert Andrew
